On March 4, 2017 former Tennessee Vols star cornerback Inky Johnson kept his InCite Talks audience riveted with his energetic presentation that encouraged people to remember that every life has a purpose, despite the mistakes of the past, or any personal shortcomings.
Johnson shared the story of how he overcame a rough childhood in Atlanta living in a 2-bedroom home with 14 people, with uncles who were incarcerated for dealing drugs. His lifelong dream was to play in the NFL, but a freak tackle while playing for the Tennessee Volunteers almost took his life. That play robbed him of his NFL dream, and left him partially paralyzed, but it also exposed his inner greatness.
His secret for success: “It’s not that we don’t have what it takes, but sometimes, it’s going to take everything we’ve got. If anyone in this room has forgotten how powerful they are, I hope the sound of my voice can serve as a reminder.”
